A 42-year-old woman has been banned from driving after being convicted of drug driving in Lakenheath.
Amy Ziegler, of Cutters Close in Beck Row, appeared before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 30 June, where she was disqualified from driving for 17 months and fined £320.
Ziegler had pleaded guilty to the charges of drug driving and driving a vehicle on a road without due care and attention and was also ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge and a further £85 in costs.
The charges relate to a road traffic collision that occurred on 11 November 2025 on the High Street, where a Peugeot had collided with a parked car.
Police were called and the driver of the Peugeot, Ziegler, failed a roadside drugs wipe, which gave a positive indication for cocaine. She was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for medical review, where an evidential sample of blood was taken.
When the results of the blood test came back, it showed Ziegler had Benzoylecgonine (the major metabolite of cocaine) in her system, at a level of 365 microgrammes per litre of blood, more than seven times the legal limit of 50mg per litre.
PC Ella Sage, who was the officer in charge of the case, said: “Driving whilst under the influence of drugs is incredibly dangerous, and puts lives at risk.
“Substance use can impair judgement, reactions and a driver’s ability to control a vehicle, which was clearly demonstrated in this case. It was extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured as a result of Ziegler’s decision to get behind the wheel whilst impaired.”
